WCTC: Washington, DC Convention and Tourism Corporation
http://www.washington.org
The Washington DC Convention and Tourism Corporation’s stated purpose is to manage and market Washington, DC as a premier global convention, tourism and special events destination. The requirements included creating a personalized experience for the end-user, having multiple levels of site access including, but not limited to General Visitor, Registered Visitor, Member, and Site Admin. To make this happen, they needed a way to allow non-technical personnel to easily, quickly, efficiently and frequently maintain site information. The solution involved a data-driven, content-management interface affording the client complete control over the content, layout and function of every page.
JeanneGrrl was responsible for ensuring the website worked in current and prior versions of IE and Netscape on the Mac and Windows NT/9x Operating Systems. Her duties included cross-platform system development test and validation; design and layout analysis, testing and design iteration for cross-platform compatibility; and dynamic generation of site’s heir menus by recursive traversing of the database. All user interface and database access were programmed in accordance with security permissions.
JeanneGrrl created an intuitive GUI to enhance Content Management. The GUI displayed a representation of web page layout and allowed users to navigate to editable areas via the display. Programming for the GUI included relating visual content areas to database content placeholders and greatly reduced Content Management complexity.
The WCTC site included functionality allowing email lists to be managed via the site. JeanneGrrl customized the SevaCM Content Management Application to allow the "Mailing Manager" to manage users and groups, and account for individual messages within mailing campaigns to include email body content in either plain-text or html as a function of saved user settings. Mailing list and user information are assembled from data gathered via the website. This functionality was facilitated by modifying an existing integration of eWebEditPro, a third-party application.
She was also responsible for the complete user experience for the User Registration portion of the website. This experience enabled user to register and modify their profile to affect site behavior. Beyond this, JeanneGrrl affected many other areas of site design, layout, functionality and testing.
This application was developed in ColdFusion 5.0 with a SQL Server 2000 database.
